Melanin Madam: Rani Reignz

  Rani, better known as “Rani Reignz” was born and raised in Houston, Tx . She studied at Lamar university where she graduated with her Bachelor degree in theater and dance. Ever since Rani was a little girl , she has been in love with music and performing. Rani has been pursuing her artistry, realeasing her singles “Flipping My Money” and “Tommy” and many more in the nearby future. She likes to recite Erykah Badu’s “I’m an artist and I’m sensitive about my shit” quote as she feels that relates to her. From a young age she knew that being strong and confident was key. And even more so since she is intune with her being. Rani Reignz is also a proud black woman! “My Black is sexy, My Black is pure, My Black is power, My Black is ME”, Rani stated during my interview with her. Rani wants to follow her dreams in hopes that’ll inspire others to do the same ...

   Ever since i could remember, I always was inspired by Rani. She was so fearless to me when it came to performing in front of people. I noticed that when our family would have get togethers, and us cousins when we were younger, we would put on on a “Talent Show”; Rani Reignz was never afraid. Hence the reason why i admired that about her. I’ve seen Rani perform a plethora of times, and she seems to always bring high energy into her performances with great vocals. Her talents are progressing. I’ll say give Rani a year or 2, and she will be a household name !

  • At what age did you start singing?

At 5 years old but i officially started singing about 6 years ago. 

• When did you realize that being an artist is what you wanted to do?

 I didn’t realize I wanted to be an artist at an early age. At 5-6 I wanted to be a entertainer and I trained myself to do what I thought entertainers did which was dance , write, make music , fashion etc... 

•Who or what inspires your artiststy?

Life inspires my artistry and my experience. Plus the people that are in my life. 

•What are some of your favorite pieces of work you’ve created?

“Favorite”? There isn’t a favorite. But I do get lit to flipping my money.  

•Who are some of your favorite singers/ performers? 

Wow, so many ; Beyonce, R.Kelly, Selena, Destiny Child’s, Aaliyah, Drake, Brittany Spears etc..

I love the whole 90’s era. The music had live instruments.

•Did you ever face any challenges as a black girl growing up?

 I always loved being black!  I’ll admit at a time i wanted to change my lips and i use to wonder if I’m not “Light Enough”. But i believe black women in the white world go through the same thing when it comes to hair, skin, etc.  But until you educate yourself, you won’t be able to overcome that ! 

•Do you plan to use your artistry to uplift black girls all around?

Of Course! But i also want to uplift all women and men.

•Where do you see “RANI REIGNZ” in the future?

I see myself “ON”. I also see myself like Drake in his “God’s Plan” video. Rani Reignz the people’s favorite artist. I plan to be making a difference in the music industry with Long Jevity as an all around entertainer. But all in all, i see myself being a very successful woman!

•What are some word of encouragement you can give to young women like yourself?

Love yourself, Believe in yourself, and embrace yourself in every breath you take. Know your worth despite any of your challenges. Also, Live In your passion!
